There will be a bone marrow donor drive by DKMS and community blood drive by Carter Blood Care from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24 inside the gym at Lake Pointe Church, 701 E. Interstate 30 in Rockwall.Help Erika Bryant Evans in her fight against leukemia and her search for a bone marrow donor. Erika is a 39-year-old mother of two and a 1990 graduate of Rockwall High School. She was diagnosed with a life threatening blood disorder known as Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November of 2011.
“I have to do whatever I can to give my sister the chance to continue to live, laugh, and love. She just wants to see her two wonderful children grow up,” said Mechelle Hood, Erika’s sister. “Please register as a donor; you might be able to save Erika.”
Family friend and supporter Traci McDonald, who helped to organize the recent benefit auction for one-year-old Kensley Jones of Rockwall, adds, “This drive will put in the national bone marrow registry, so if you are not a match for Erika, when Kensley gets ready, there will be more chance of a match for her or someone else who needs a donor.”
