Encore Wire McKinney to receive manufacturing award

(McKinney) Encore Wire Corp. will be presented with the Texas Manufacturing Star Award from Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken at a 10 a.m. ceremony on Wednesday, March 28.

Encore Wire, an industry leader in copper and aluminum wire manufacturing, boasts award-winning products that promote cost savings and safety. The company employs more than 850 workers at its headquarters in McKinney.

The Texas Manufacturing Star Award recognizes the positive impact Encore Wire has had on manufacturing in Texas and the McKinney community.

“We recognize outstanding employers like Encore Wire who work hard to maintain and increase manufacturing jobs in Texas,” said Pauken. “The company’s expansion efforts and partnership with local economic development entities has a positive impact on the state’s manufacturing workforce.”

Encore Wire is building a 202,000-square-foot state-of-the art manufacturing plant and expects to hire up to 100 new employees over the next few years. The company will begin product shipment from the new plant by August of 2012.

“Encore Wire has been an instrumental member of the McKinney community for more than 20 years, and we are proud that they call McKinney home,” said McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller. “Their leadership in their industry and the community makes Encore Wire more than deserving of this prestigious honor.”

Pauken will present the Texas Manufacturing Star Award throughout the coming year to outstanding private-sector employers who contribute to growing the manufacturing base in Texas. Businesses are chosen for the award based on the economic impact they have on their local communities, partnerships they develop with economic development organizations or training providers, and their workforce training and development efforts.

“Texas is faring well in manufacturing employment with more than 847,000 Texans working in manufacturing jobs including nearly 25,000 jobs added within the past year,” Pauken said. “With exports valued at nearly $160 billion each year, Texas leads the nation in manufacturing exports. If we are to keep Texas the number one state in America to do business, building and maintaining a strong manufacturing sector must be a top priority.”

Encore Wire Corporate Headquarters is located at 1329 Millwood in McKinney.
