Wylie High advances students to UIL regional round

(Wylie ISD) The UIL Academic Team at Wylie High School competed March 22-24 in the district meet held at Highland Park High School, turning in its strongest performance and advancing students to the regional round.

In addition, the team is tied for second place with Rockwall High School; final placement is determined by the best performance in the upcoming One-Act Play contest.

Students who placed in the top three spots advance to the regionals scheduled for April at the University of North Texas in Denton.  Congratulations to the following students and their sponsors, Anita Murack, Tiffany Syfert, Cindy Anderson, Travis Hiltbrunner and Ted Stephens.

Headline Writing-2nd Place – Ellen Howarth; 6th Place – Brandon Carr

News Writing-6th place – Michelle Grissom

Literary Criticism-2nd place – Jessica Scott; 4th Place – Marshall McClure;  6th Place – Lauren Pybus. The team took first place in Literary Criticism; all three advance to regionals.

Number Sense-3rd Place team – Nahum Alem, Chris Dessert, Ebore Awano – 3rd place team

Ready Writing-1st Place – Brandon Carr; 3rd Place – Amy Wickett 

Social Studies-3rd Place – Hector Rodriguez

Spelling and Vocabulary-4th Place – Marshall McClure

Lincoln Douglas Debate-3rd Place – Sally Schmitt; 4th Place – Mark Fajardo

Informative Speaking-3rd Place – Sally Schmitt; 4th Place – Taylor Manatsa; 6th Place – Brandon Frederick

Persuasive Speaking-1st Place – Sarah Grace Crocco; 5th Place – Evan Lope

Prose-4th Place – Amber Banfill; 5th Place – Sandra Addo.

The speech team took home second place for all speech events.
