Art show opening coincides with Grapevine’s 28th Annual Main Street Days
First exhibit to be showcased in new Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Headquarters and Museum Complex
(Grapevine) April 11, 2012 – The 91st Annual National Watercolor Society’s Traveling Exhibition will be the first art show to be featured in the brand new Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Headquarters and Museum Complex. The exhibition opens May 18 and runs through June 15, 2012.
The Grapevine Art Project, a non-profit organization established to promote local artists, increase art appreciation and education of the visual arts and to bring regional and national art exhibits to Grapevine, successfully arranged for the exhibition to be displayed in the brand new facility. One of six stops on the Traveling Exhibition’s tour, the opening of the exhibition coincides with Grapevine’s 28th Annual Main Street Days.
Each year, the NWS receives about 1,500 entries for the Traveling Exhibition. The top 100 are selected for awards and recognition as some of the best watercolor paintings from Society members. The NWS then selects 30 paintings to comprise the Traveling Exhibition.
In addition, GAP is sponsoring a Plein Air competition for paintings that depict scenes within Grapevine. En Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to painting outdoors. The top 15 Grapevine Plein Air paintings will also be displayed in conjunction with the NWS Traveling Exhibition. Works by GAP artists, pieces from additional Grapevine art galleries, and paintings by watercolor artists throughout North Texas will also be shown.
Advance tickets may be purchased for $3 at GrapevineArtProject.com or from a variety of downtown merchants. Tickets at the door will be $5. The Grapevine CVB’s new Headquarters and Museum Complex is located at 636 S. Main St. in Grapevine.
