Volunteers’ time is money for Rockwall County Library

(Rockwall) April 10, 2012 – In a proclamation read by Judge Jerry Hogan, the Rockwall County Commissioners Court designated April 8-14 as National Library Week in Rockwall County.

Kathleen Broze, president of Friends of the Library, and 2011 Hartman Award recipient Carolyn Duckworth presented Judge Hogan a facsimile check for $255,679.20 representing the value of volunteer services performed in the Library during FY 2011.

Some volunteers shelve books and perform light clerical duties while others are tutors with the Library’s literacy program, Reading for Adults sponsored by Friends of the Rockwall County Library.

Volunteers teach in the English as a Second Language program, tutor people who have never learned to read, and teach classes in Citizenship and GED.
