(Rockwall) May 29, 2012 – In response to the North Texas Municipal Water District voting on May 24 to return to Stage 2 of the Water Conservation and Drought Contingency and Water Emergency Response Plan, March 2008, (Plan), the City of Rockwall will also be returning to Stage 2 restrictions.
Effective June 1, 2012, and continuing through the months of June, July, August and September, residents will be permitted to irrigate landscape with sprinkler and irrigation systems no more than two days per week, as needed.Residents and businesses may select these two days based on their individual watering needs. Watering between 10 AM and 6 PM is prohibited.
Under the Stage 2 water restrictions, consumers are allowed to use soaker hoses and drip irrigation systems for up to two hours on any day for foundations and trees. Under the Stage 2 provisions, residents must continue to meet or exceed the 10% water usage reduction goal.
The City of Rockwall is implementing the following water conservation strategies:
- Limit landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems to no more than two days per week, as needed.An exception is allowed for landscape associated with new construction that may be watered as necessary for 30 days from the date of the certificate of occupancy or the date of final inspection.An exception is also allowed for registered and properly functioning ET/Smart Irrigation Systems, which do not have restrictions to the number of days per week of operation.
- Restrict landscape and lawn irrigation from 10AM to 6PM beginning April 1 through October 31 each year.
- Prohibit planting of cool season grasses (such as rye grass or other similar grasses) that intensify cool season water requirements
The water supply from Lake Texoma, 28% of the total NTMWD water supply, remains offline due to the infestation of zebra mussels.NTMWD does not expect to resume pumping water from Lake Texoma until the pipeline extension project is complete after the summer of 2013.Extending our water supply during Stage 2 through the efficient use of existing water resources is crucial to meeting our long-term water needs.
