Dallas Open Water Swim makes waves to fight cancer

(Lake Ray Hubbard) June 7, 2012 – Swim Across America, dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment, will host a Dallas Olympian Clinic Friday and an Open Water Swim Saturday in Rockwall.

DALLAS OLYMPIAN CLINIC

All age group swimmers may join in the Dallas Olympian Clinic to learn technique tips from some of the world’s best swimmers, including Josh Davis and Neil Walker. Proceeds benefit the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. Clinic check-in is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 8 at the Rockwall ISD Natatorium, 1205 T.L. Townsend Drive, 75087. The clinic runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. A pizza party and autograph signing event will follow.

All swimmers should bring a suit, goggles and a towel. A Swim Across America cap will be provided. All participants will receive a goodie bag supplied by Mutual of Omaha.

Swimmers participating in the Dallas Open Water Swim who have raised $250 or more may register for the Olympian Clinic at no cost.

Those who are only participating in the Olympian Clinic must pay a $50 registration fee. All registration fee donations are tax-deductible and proceeds will go to the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center.

Swimmers of all skill levels are welcome to join the Dallas Open Water Swim at Lake Ray Hubbard, The Harbor in Rockwall, to raise money for the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. Swim as an individual or as a team to honor loved ones who have been affected by cancer.

Each swimmer 18 years and older will be required to raise a minimum of $500 by the day of the event. Each swimmer 12-17 years old will be required to raise a minimum of $100 by the day of the event. The $50 registration fee will apply to each swimmer’s individual fundraising goal.

There will be 1/2 mile, 1 mile, and 2 mile options. The 2 mile course will consist of doing the 1 mile loop twice. All swimmers will be using a timing chip, regardless of what course option they choose. For all requirements and registration information, visit Dallas Open Water Swim.
