Eagle Scout project blooms, community partnerships grow at Rockwall YMCA

(Rockwall) September 5, 2012 – The YMCA, as many people know, promotes Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

One way that we work toward these goals is by creating partnerships in the community that focus on our common purpose.  Recently we had a young man, Andrew Kirfman, who is working to earn his Eagle Scout award, do a great project for us.

Some of the things that he did during this extensive project:

  • Planted Saint Augustine sod in the front yard
  • Added an extension to the path on the right side of the yard
  • Added new path stones and gravel
  • Replaced the edging on the main flower bed and replaced the mulch in all the flower beds
  • In the process of trimming the trees that are touching the building
  • And last but not least, in the process of relocating the flagpole so it wasn’t colliding with the tree in our front yard.

We are so thankful to Andrew for all of his hard work!

Another community partnership that the YMCA coming up is a landscaping project sponsored by Modern Woodman Financial.

Shey Stegall will be coming to the YMCA at 3 pm Thursday, September 20 to overhaul the memorial garden on the side of our building.  We will be putting in a stone path and planting upgraded greenery.  We need volunteers for this project!  Please contact me if you are able to put on some gardening gloves and get a good workout with us for a couple of hours!  Come sweat with me!  RSVP to .
