Eleven-year-old Rockwall girl named to Olympic Development Soccer Team
Gretta Sonnen, No. 17.

(Rockwall) October 24, 2012 – Eleven-year-old Gretta Sonnen of Rockwall was recently selected to the North Texas Olympic Development Soccer Team – an honor she earned after a very challenging, three-part tryout with more than 300 of the best female soccer players in her age bracket from across North Texas.

The Hartman Elementary sixth grader has been playing soccer since she was five years old.

For the past five years, Gretta has been playing with Sting East Soccer.  She spent three years in their Academy program and the past two years as a select player in their Club program with Coach Audrey Gutierrez.

The Olympic Development Team meets regularly for training, in addition to their training with their local soccer clubs. The first North Texas ODP games will be a regional tournament in College Station, scheduled for February 15 to 17, 2013. The North Texas team will compete against ODP teams from South Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

“I’m thankful for great training from Coach Audrey and for the great teammates I have at Sting,” said Gretta. “If you work really hard, your dreams can come true.”

Gretta added that she is thrilled to learn new skills and to meet new players who love the game as much as she does.

Gretta is the daughter of Dr. Greg & Annette Sonnen of Rockwall.
