Grace Hartman students enjoy the gift of giving

Olivia Ratcliff, Wes Tolbert and Brianna Faulkenberry hold up some of the numerous books they brought for donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Rockwall.

(ROCKWALL ISD-December 20, 2012) Fourth grade students at Grace Hartman Elementary used the holiday season for a Service Learning Project.

The students decided instead of bringing a book or gift for a classroom gift exchange, they wanted to help others in their community.

Grace Jacobson, Stevie Bradbury and Desiree Gray show the bags their fourth grade class decorated. Their classroom donated money to purchase children’s gloves for a homeless shelter and wanted the recipients to know they were being thought of during this chilly season.

Some students brought books for a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Rockwall County. Helping Hands received numerous boxes of food items for their holiday pantry needs.

A local group supports a homeless shelter and there is always a need for warm gloves for over 80 children in need. The fourth graders used money they had donated to buy warm, stretchy children’s gloves and placed them in lunch sacks decorated with special notes and pictures for the children. It is a great way to help students learn to think of others and enjoy the Gift of Giving for others.
