(ROCKWALL – December 5, 2012) Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County is in urgent need of donations following deep cuts in federal and state funding, as well as an increasing need for services.
During 2012, MOW provided more 45,000 meals for homebound seniors and the disabled in Rockwall County in part by local government funding, fundraisers, and private donations.
The purpose of Meals on Wheels Senior Services is to keep seniors living independently by providing noontime meals and offering additional supportive services. Margie VerHagen, executive director, said her biggest concern is the welfare of the clients. “For many of them, the only person they see all day is the volunteer driver, providing the opportunity for early intervention in life-threatening situations,” she said.
To absorb the funding reduction and eliminate the need for a waiting list, Meals on Wheels Senior Services is asking for immediate support from the community. There are several ways for community members to help sustain this vital program:
Participate in MOW’s Annual Holiday Campaign with a generous one-time or recurring donation by visiting rockwallmow.com or come in to the office at 950 Williams Street, Bldg. C Suite 200, Rockwall, 972-771-9514.
Visit the Meals on Wheels Senior Services Christmas tree at either of the following locations to make a donation: HomeBank at 105 Ralph Hall Pkwy, or Community Bank at 201 East Kaufman.
Purchase raffle tickets, 5 for $20, for a chance to win an iPAD on December 14, 2012. For tickets, call the office at 972-771-9514.
Please donate today to make an impact in the lives of Rockwall County homebound senior and disabled. This holiday season please help feed the children of yesterday.
