(ROCKWALL-January 28, 2013) Today marked one more time that the Rockwall community stepped up to take care of one of its own. The Rockwall Neighborhood Walmart made a generous donation to injured firefighter Devon Colbert and his family.
The Rockwall and Garland Fire Department were present to receive the donation on behalf of the Colberts.
“This is so special to us because firefighters always take care of firefighters, but with Devon, we need the support of the Rockwall and Garland communities,” said David Riggs, Garland Firefighters Association President.
“Walmart already supports the fire department annually. This is tremendous to see them also stepping up to go above and beyond their annual contribution to help a firefighter in need,” added Chief Mark Poindexter with the Rockwall Fire Department.
Bri Jones, Neighborhood Walmart Assistant Manger, said, “We take pride in being part of Rockwall because our community is what drives our business and makes us the store we are. So, it gives us great pleasure to give back to one of Rockwall’s own in need.”
ABOUT DEVON
Here’s an excerpt from the family’s FB page: “On December 17th, Devon and our son were involved in a very serious car accident. We are giving thanks and praise that our son Levi was left scratch free. Devon has suffered a severe spinal injury currently leaving him paralyzed. We are determined and faith driven to keep pushing to achieve new goals each day. We have set up this page to keep people informed and updated on Devon’s recovery and ways to help. We would like to thank each and everyone of you for loving our family, praying for our family and making donations to our family. You never imagine yourself being in a position where such help will or would be needed…Thank you!”
