Rowlett Lions support Texas Lions Camp for kids with physical, mental challenges

(ROWLETT-January 12, 2013) The Rowlett Lions Club recently provided $60,000 to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas.

The Texas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, type 1 diabetes and cancer. The Camp is located in Kerrville on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and is designed to introduce the “Can Do” philosophy to children dealing with special physical and medical conditions.

Over 1,500 children attend Texas Lions Camp over the course of 9 weeks each summer, at no charge.  The camp’s operational budget for the past year was $2.3 million. In order to strengthen the current endowment fund from which some of the operational budget is drawn, the Rowlett Lions Club has donated $70,000 in 2010 and $60,000 in 2012.

The Rowlett Lions Club has been a generous supporter of local and state charities since its inception in 1966.  Over 90% of everything raised goes to organizations such as The Children’s Hospital of Dallas, The Salvation Army, The Scottish Rite, and The Rowlett Needy Children’s Fund – just to name a few.
