Be the Match to bring together marrow donors, transplant patients

(DALLAS-February 10, 2013) Dallas will host a Be The Match Walk+Run on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Lone Star Park, bringing together marrow donors and transplant patients to demonstrate that the cure for blood cancer is in the hands of ordinary people.

This fundraising event (formerly known as Be The One Run®) helps patients with blood cancers like leukemia find a marrow donor and receive a life-saving transplant. Most of us won’t have a marrow match in our family and Be The Match recruits and matches volunteer marrow donors with patients who need them.

Every year, more than 12,000 patients in the U.S. are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia for which a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor may be their best or only hope of a cure.

Be The Match Walk+Run raises funds to support marrow transplant research, help patients with uninsured treatment costs, and add more volunteer potential marrow donors to Be The Match Registry®, giving more patients hope for a cure.

With a 5K, 1K and Tot Trot, the Walk+Run is perfect for the entire family and for people of all fitness levels. Visit BeTheMatchWalkRun.org to register, fundraise and volunteer.

The Dallas/Fort Worth Be The Match Walk+Run is part of a 2013 national series that includes Walk+Runs in 13 cities across the country: Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Long Beach, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Phoenix, Portland, Richmond, St. Louis, San Jose, and Tampa.
