Amy Parks student earns county alternate spot
(ROCKWALL ISD-February 7, 2013) Rockwall ISD recently hosted the Rockwall County Spelling Bee, sponsored by Scripps National Spelling Bee and the Dallas Morning News.
The contest was open to all students in fourth through eighth grade in Rockwall County. Participants in this year’s event included each Rockwall ISD campus winner, students from H.E.A.R (Home Education Associational Resources, Inc), and Royse City ISD.
Emily Miller, an eighth grader from Cain Middle School, was named the county winner. Emily will go on to represent Rockwall ISD in the regional spelling bee.
Sixth grade runner up, Kaitlyn Rothbauer from Amy Parks Elementary, earned the county alternate spot in the competition.
The 55th Annual Dallas Morning News Regional Spelling Bee will be held on March 23, 2013. The Regional Spelling Bee Champion will then advance to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Additional Rockwall county contestants included: Savannah Chatham (Utley MS), Sarah Jackson (Hartman Elementary), Emily Miller (Cain MS), Samuel Williamson (Cullins Elementary), Herman Singh (Shannon Elementary), Jill Fedderson (H.E.A.R.), Mallory Cothran (Williams MS), Gabe Collins (Jones Elementary), Lauren Potter (Hays Elementary), Kaitlyn Rothbauer (Amy Parks Elementary), Aliyya Rahman (Rochell Elementary), Madeline Boersig (Pullen Elementary), Lauren Ross (Reinhardt Elementary), Olivia Archer (Dobbs Elementary), Paige Carsia (Nebbie Elementary), Ashlynn Moss (Royse City ISD), and Kathleen Coutch (Springer Elementary).
