Free programs continue with ‘Little House on the Prairie: Rockwall’s Native Grasslands’
(ROCKWALL-February 11, 2013) The Rockwall County Historical Foundation and the Rockwall County Historical Commission recently kicked off their 2013 Brown Bag Lecture Series with “Images of America: Royse City,” presented by author Sheri Fowler.
Next up is the program “Little House on the Prairie: Rockwall’s Native Grasslands” with City of Rockwall Park Board Chairman and master botanist Marc Yarbrough.
All programs in the Brown Bag Lecture Series are free and open to the public. Programs cover topics of interest regarding Rockwall County history. Bring a sack lunch and join them from noon to 1 p.m. in the second floor courtroom at the historic courthouse in downtown Rockwall.

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE: ROCKWALL’S NATIVE GRASSLANDS
City of Rockwall Park Board Chairman and master botanist Marc Yarbrough will talk about the landscape that Rockwall’s earliest pioneer residents encountered as they crossed the grassland prairies. He will also tell about the native grassland project located at Myers Park behind the Historical Foundation Museum.

DOWNTOWN…AND BEYOND!
This program will feature an overview of the City of Rockwall’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board’s projects including an online historic home survey for the city. If you are interested in seeing Rockwall’s historic sites preserved, you will want to hear about these interesting projects and what we are learning about Rockwall history through their efforts.

LaVeron and Charles Falls share personal photos and memories of Rockwall. LaVeron was born and raised in the area and Charles and she owned the Rockwall Ice House and did home delivery as well as delivery to all the business in Rockwall.

This program will focus on a recently discovered home movie featuring local residents celebrating the city of Rockwall’s 1954 Centennial. The film, found by the Presbyterian Church and donated to the Rockwall County Historical Foundation, is an amazing look back in time.
