Blue Ribbon News – fair & balanced?

Dawn Redig, editor

Perhaps not.  At least not when it comes to the types of stories we cover.

We prefer “good” news. There’s plenty of it to go around; it’s just rare to find those who will report it.

At Blue Ribbon News, we shine the spotlight on people, places and events that impact our communities in a positive way. We believe that if we share your story and it truly makes a difference – big or small – more “good” will follow. By highlighting companies that are “doing business right,” consumers stay better informed and neighborhood merchants grow and prosper.

Our print edition is delivered free to about 16,000 homes throughout Rockwall and Heath, but did you know that our online publication, BlueRibbonNews.com, spans all of Dallas-Fort Worth, reaching tens of thousands of readers? Dozens of fresh, new feature stories, hometown happenings, Chamber events and ribbon cuttings, business news and professional profiles, church, school, and club activities are posted daily.

Some of our most popular features are written by Blue Ribbon News special contributors – like astronomy news by Max Corneau (aka AstroDad) of Rockwall; Travel Tips by Robbert van Bloemendaal of Rowlett; and faith columns by Christian writer Patti Richter of Heath.  First Texas Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall shares Good Health articles, and Liz Jones of the YMCA writes about Living Well. Author and educator Maren Schmidt discusses parenting issues, and Bob and Becky Barnes of Mathnasium offer helpful hints to “make math make sense.” (Several parents and teachers have requested reprints of these columns – even asked to translate them into Spanish).  Michael Kitkoski with Rockwall Pets highlights a Pet of the Week, and we recently introduced our Throwaway Ponies Adoption Spotlight.

Our Good People profile series is my personal favorite. It features Q&As with people that make a positive difference – like Sherry Hamm of Helping Hands, featured in our latest print edition, which hits the streets the week of March 18, 2013.
