JER Chilton YMCA to host Lunch & Learn, Healthy Kids Day

Liz Jones is the Membership and Wellness Director at the Rockwall County YMCA.

YMCA offers FREE Lunch & Learn on family nutrition for Blue Ribbon News readers

(ROCKWALL – March 2, 2013) March is National Nutrition Month, so this is a great time to focus on individual and family nutrition.  One of the most important aspects of a wellness program, whether you are trying to be fit, avert disease, have energy, have children who can focus in school, or to excel in any part of your life is what you put in your body.

Here are some ways that the YMCA can help you and your family work toward better nutrition:

As a YMCA member you get free orientations and wellness coaching sessions throughout your membership.  Wellness Coaches can provide you with nutritional information or set you up with meal plan suggestions.

YMCA members have access to Mobilefit, which has a nutritional program that you can access at the Y or on your computer or phone.  You can print recipes, create meal plans, select foods that you and your family like to eat, track your nutritional intake (and even your calories expended each day if you want to), and many other features.

We host onsite and offsite seminars on nutrition for our members on a regular basis.

Attend a Lunch & Learn at the YMCA about nutrition.

On Wednesday, March 13 at 11:45 am, I will be teaching a Lunch & Learn at the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall on family nutrition and give some planning ideas and recipes and information to attendees.  It is free to YMCA members and to Blue Ribbon News readers.  If you are not a YMCA member and would like to attend, bring a copy of this article in and come as my guest.  As always, I love to hear from my readers if there are topics that you would like me to write about, or if you have individual questions, contact me at: .

In April, attend Healthy Kids Day from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20.  We will have a variety of health and nutritional information available for families, as well as “Minute to Win It” activities, a bounce house, snacks and prizes.

We are also currently looking for families in Rockwall County that would like to participate in a healthy family living program coming soon.  Contact me via email for more information.
