Community kicks off Easter at Heart of Heath

2013start-small — More than 340 runners and walkers participated in the 2013 Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk on Easter Saturday.

(HEATH-April 2, 2013) Ideal “runner’s weather” helped attract more than 340 participants to the Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk presented on March 30 by the City of Heath Special Events Board.

MayorTokuz-small — Heath Mayor Lorne Liechty congratulates Justin Tokuz, the winner of the 2013 Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk. Tokuz took first place for the second consecutive year with a time of 18.25.

Taking first place in the run for the second consecutive year was Justin Tokuz with an 18:25 time. Tiffany Hauerwas the overall top female winner with a 20.24 time. Placing first in the new male and female masters categories was Joseph Kipping with a time of 20.59 and Janie Simpson at 25.24.

New features at the 2013 Heart of Heath, traditionally hosted on the Saturday before Easter, included expand award categories and chip-timed start and finish lines.

“The City of Heath appreciates the generous support of the sponsors and prize donors, and thanks the many volunteers and staff for their hard work to make the Heart of Heath a fun and safe time for all,” said Heath Mayor Lorne Liechty, noting that proceeds from the run benefit the Heath’s parks and trails.

“Our goal is to continue to make this a hometown tradition that encourages participation by residents and guests of all ages and competitive levels,” he added.
