Homebound seniors receive special visits, hot lunches

(ROCKWALL COUNTY-April 5, 2013) Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County is on the front lines every day to ensure that no senior in Rockwall County goes hungry.

On Wednesday, March 20Heath City Mayor Lorne Liechty joined with volunteers from all over Rockwall County to deliver a much needed noon day meal to homebound seniors and disabled.

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Margie VerHagen presented Mayor Liechty with a heartfelt thank you and a Certificate of Appreciation for his support in providing nutritious meals to seniors and disabled five days a week and helping them to stay in their own homes as long as safely possible.

Each year at this time Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County invites all 5 mayors from Cities within the county to deliver meals to senior and disabled citizens in their cities.  Mayor Liechty of the city of Heath and Mayor Moody from the city of McLendon-Chisholm spent the lunch hour delivering a nutritious meal to their elderly citizens.

Mayors for Meals is in conjunction with March for Meals, a national campaign sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America to raise awareness of senior hunger and to rally support for the mission to end senior hunger by 2020.
