(April 23, 2013) The Lakeside Civic Chorus recently announced the recipients of its Mary Elaine House Scholarships for 2013.

Scholarship winners are Vineisha Hendricks from Rockwall High School; Gideon Boley and Spencer Sosnowski, both of Rockwall-Heath High School.

The Chorus awards these scholarships annually to deserving high school seniors who will be majoring in music at an accredited college or university.

Vineisha Hendricks

Vineisha has applied and been accepted to University of North Texas, Dallas Baptist, and Berkley School of Music and is at this time undecided which one she will attend. She plans to major in music, Music Business, with a minor in Pre-Law.

During her time at Rockwall High School, Vineisha has been active in the Academic Booster Club, Academic Decathlon Program, Interact Club, Girl Scouts, Knights of Peter Claver,  RHS Basketball, and RHS Tennis. She spends numerous hours at Rockwall School of Music, where she takes voice lessons from Dr. Marietta Hobbs, and also takes guitar, piano, and violin lessons. In her spare time she has sang with Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas, and is Cantor and Choir member at Our Lady of the Lake.

Gideon Boley

Gideon will be attending Belmont University majoring in Music Business.  Gideon is proficient in piano and guitar, and spends most of his free time working the lighting and audio for Lake Point Church services and special programs, and plays in the Lake Point Orchestra.

Spencer has been accepted at both Baylor University and SMU, but will be attending Baylor University in the fall as a music major.

Spencer Sosnowski

Spencer is proficient in alto and baritone sax, French horn, clarinet, and flute, but his main instrument is the sax. His activities at Rockwall-Heath include the Academic Booster Club, Section Leader – Mighty Hawks Band, Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind symphony, YMCA Youth and Government. Outside activities include performing with the Lake Point Church orchestra, and as a pit musician in the Rockwall Summer Musicals – Gypsy.  Spencer won the USMC Concert Competition (one of two nationwide) and was soloist with “The President’s Own” USMC Band in Washington, DC in March, 2013.
