Rockwall Helping Hands awarded United Way grants

(Rockwall County) May 31, 2013 – United Way of Metropolitan Dallas has awarded Rockwall County Helping Hands  a three-year Community Impact Grant of $90,000 for the Health Center of Helping Hands.  In addition, RCHH also received a $40,000 annual Basic Needs grant for the Emergency Assistance Program.

United Way’s mission is to change lives through the delivery of Education, Income and Health programs offered by community organizations like Helping Hands.  This multiyear funding will help Rockwall County Helping Hands lead to greater impact, better outcomes and measurable progress toward achieving our goals.  It will empower RCHH and United Way to better plan for long-term efforts with more stable funding patterns.  Our commitment to measurable outcomes makes it possible to impact lives in Rockwall County.

Rockwall County Helping Hands is proud to collaborate with United Way to make sure all Rockwall County residents have access to affordable healthcare and to provide emergency assistance for struggling families.  Helping Hands extends a heartfelt thank you to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas for its longstanding support of our agency and for this generous allocation it has entrusted.

“United Way of Metropolitan Dallas announced its Community Impact Grants for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, totaling more than $20 million for agencies that aim to improve education, health and income in North Texas,” according to the Dallas Morning News.

These grants, which are awarded every year through United Way’s extensive application process, are a little different now. Beginning this year, United Way will be funding the selected agencies for the next three fiscal years, through 2016. That investment totals at least $60 million, reported Susan Hoff, chief strategy officer at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

“The reason,” said Jennifer Sampson, president and chief executive of United Way, “is to help the agencies focus on solving the area’s social problems instead of concentrating on securing funding from year to year.”
