Introducing Rockwall Women’s Imaging & Breast Center

What is a breast center?

(ROCKWALL-May 4, 2013) You may have recently heard the term breast center or seen an advertisement or signage for a breast center in your area.  Being a fairly new term, you may have wondered “what is a breast center and why is it important?”

A breast center is a highly specialized program or department that offers more than mammography services for routine mammograms.  In fact, breast centers will offer a range of technology to meet the individual needs of the patient’s medical condition.  If an individual case calls for biopsy, breast MRI, or ultrasound the procedure will typically be performed on sight at the breast center.  These procedures, which are for the purpose of diagnosing lumps found during a routine mammogram, require highly skilled clinicians and advanced technology.

Texas Health Rockwall is proud to introduce the Rockwall Women’s Imaging & Breast Center. This center, designed specifically with women in mind, offers each patient the utmost privacy in a serene, spa-like setting.  But most importantly, the breast center offers care that is personalized to your individual needs, desires and in some cases, fears.  Are you are nervous about having your first mammogram or about the follow up mammogram after undergoing breast cancer treatment?  If so, rest assured that not only will you get the best diagnostic service possible but you also have plenty of time to ask questions or simply talk to our mammography technologists.  Remember, this is your breast center and we want you to feel completely comfortable.

Just as important as the environment and technology is the staff you will interact with.  Who might you encounter on your visit to a breast center?  Each breast center may have one or several of the following individuals involved in caring for you.

• The Mammography Technologist, who will perform the mammogram, is specially trained in breast mammography and may be the only caregiver you personally meet.

• The Radiologist, a certified medical doctor, will “read” your mammogram.  Not all radiologists are trained specifically in breast imaging, but those that are complete breast imaging fellowships at teaching hospitals.  Should you require additional or diagnostic testing you may speak with the Radiologist over the phone or in person.

• Should you be diagnosed with breast cancer you will have a great advocate on your side!  A trained Nurse Navigator walks breast cancer patients through the maze of appointments, diagnostics and treatments options that will be offered.  They also help coordinate care, assist in locating additional resources (financial, family, aesthetic, etc) and a variety of other personal needs.

• Further surgical treatment brings the expertise of a breast surgeon into your care path.

There may be a number of reasons for you to select a breast center for your specific care.  Whether out of convenience, insurance plans accepted or physician referral, remember that what is most important to you is that you get the best care possible!  Ask yourself if you trust, or will be able to trust, the establishment with your care.  Ask for referrals from friends and neighbors too as their experience may be representative of the level of care you will receive.  And finally, when considering Rockwall Women’s Imaging & Breast Center, don’t be afraid to call us, ask questions and even take a tour!  We are there to care for you and that includes answering your questions and allaying your fears.
