Serving up ‘Gracious Retirement Living’

(Rockwall) July 10, 2013 – Are you curious about what makes Rockwall’s newest independent retirement community so different? Liberty Heights will host its Grand Opening from 11am-4pm Sunday, July 21 for an afternoon of guided tours, entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, and a taste of “gracious retirement living.”
Located east of Rockwall High School at 963 Yellow Jacket Lane, Liberty Heights  comprises 118 units – including studio apartments, one-and two bedroom suites and 42 floor plans.

Its 40,000 sq ft common area houses a movie theater, activity room with dance floor, library, billiards and game room, large screen TV lounge, fitness and exercise room, laundry facility, chapel and business center.

Residents are treated to three home-cooked meals a day, prepared by Executive Chef Linwood Henderson and a team of culinary experts. Their made-from-scratch recipes earned Liberty Heights a second place award at this year’s Taste of Rockwall and Business Expo. Dishes are served up restaurant-style in the dining room, where residents can enjoy the company of family and friends. Visitors pay only $5 per meal; 12 and under eat free. Coffee and snacks are available all day, as is the 24-hour fruit bar.

Weekly housekeeping and linen service is provided, along with climate-controlled bus transportation to and from scheduled appointments and shopping trips.

There are plenty of planned activities and social events, and the outside grounds feature a putting green, shuffleboard, raised flower beds and a fire pit.

Perhaps most remarkably, all of these amenities are provided at no additional charge.

“We are an all-inclusive retirement community providing five-star services on a month-to-month basis,” explained Ellie Christopher, Marketing Manager. “Rather than offering a la carte services like some other facilities do, our residents pay a consistent, affordable, monthly rent that includes all these amenities and more. Even utilities – with the exception of the telephone – are included.”

Our 42 different floor plans provide monthly rents that are affordable for almost every income level. Seniors can remain independent and enjoy nutritious meals and social activities without being burdened by cooking, driving or maintaining a house and yard.

“When you walk through our front door, you feel life,” Ellie said. “You enter a lively environment where people are engaged.”

She attributes that sense of community and warmth to being a family-owned operation, and having staff members who are truly invested in the residents.

“What sets us apart is that we have four on-site managers – two husband-and-wife teams – that are available 24/7 for emergencies, allowing residents to feel safe and secure. Family members are comfortable knowing their loved ones are looked after ‘round the clock,” Ellie said.

Each suite is equipped with a state-of-the-art sprinkler system and emergency call system. The doors to the community are locked at night, but residents have their own key to come and go as they wish.

For managers TC and Mary Flowers, and Jerry and Becky Kerr, living on-site and serving the senior residents of Liberty Heights is their life’s mission.

“It’s our calling and our passion,” said Mary. “We love what we do, and so does everyone on staff at Liberty Heights. We are family.”

Even pets are welcome at Liberty Heights, with no additional pet deposit. For $70/night, a guest room is available for residents’ family members to spend the night, meals included. A travel program allows residents to visit any of the management company’s properties in the U.S., Canada and United Kingdom, where they can reserve a guest suite free for one week – again with meals included.

Addressing medical needs

To allow residents the luxury of “aging in place,”Liberty Heights partnered with My Guardian for Life, a licensed Medicare certified home health agency. Residents requiring special in-home care may contract with the Rockwall-based company for the specific services they need.

“We’re excited about serving the residents of Liberty Heights,” said Brenda Cross, CEO and Founder of My Guardian For Life. “We have an office on the 3rd floor, and we’ll offer supplemental private duty care, home health services and hospice. Routine blood pressure checks will be given, and we’ll host wellness clinics with guest speakers from the medical field. We look forward to addressing any medical needs necessary while allowing seniors to live in the comfort of their home.”

Keeping active, living socially

Liberty Heights also partnered with JER Chilton YMCA, allowing residents to participate in an on-site, complimentary exercise program under the guidance of fitness instructor Aaron Jones. Aaron will also offer massage therapy. On select days, seniors can board the bus and head to the Y for water aerobics.

A beauty salon/ barber shop is available on the property for seniors who choose to take advantage of those services. Residents can also participate in a book club, Bridge and Poker games, or go on excursions to museums, cultural events and casinos.

“Getting regular exercise, eating nutritious meals and living socially are all keys to a healthy lifestyle,” Ellie points out. “Seniors who make the move while they are still healthy tend to retain, or even improve their health while living in an independent retirement community like Liberty Heights.”
