Artisan Festival to showcase local, national talent Saturday

(ROCKWALL – Sept. 20, 2013) Late September brings perfect weather for Rockwall’s inaugural Fine Arts Show and Artisan Festival benefitting the Rockwall County Alliance for the Arts. The Harbor event will showcase an elite group of fine artists, who will have their works for sale, and will be set up near retail spots and restaurants. The Festival is set for Saturday, September 21 from about 9 a.m. through dusk.

The Call to Artists went throughout the nation, and only a select few were invited to participate. These artists will include a broad scope of the fine arts, such as sculpture, glass, leather, painting, drawing, wood, fiber, digital, jewelry, ceramics, metalwork, photography, mixed media, printmaking and graphics.

“We are thrilled to have made contact with fine artisans from top-ranked art cities like Santa Fe, Boston and Chicago,” said RCAA board president, Kathleen Morrow, “but also we have interests from San Antonio, Austin, Ft. Worth. Rockwall residents will have an opportunity to view and own works from these outstanding artists.”

Local arts organizations will be participating in the Festival. Members of the Rockwall Art League will show in a gallery provided by The Harbor. This gallery grand opening will be on Festival day.

Members from RCAA’s performing arts groups – Rockwall Children’s Chorus, Lakeside Civic Chorus, Rockwall Community Playhouse, Rockwall Summer Musicals and Rockwall Community Band – will provide entertainment throughout the day, and into the evening, delighting diners on restaurant patios.

“The Alliance works to bring fine and performing arts to residents across the county, and this event allows us to feature our local talent, plus bring in extraordinary artists that locally we might not get to see,” said Lisa Campbell, RCAA executive director.

RCAA plans to continue this premiere event each year, perhaps expanding to a full stage, and offering more exquisite art and even demonstrations.

RCAA  was formed as a nonprofit in 1999 by seven former members of the Cultural Arts Commission of Rockwall. The evolution stemmed from the need to broaden the group’s capabilities in soliciting funds and securing grants for local arts organizations. The Alliance strives to educate and create awareness of the arts, promote community cultural activities, support arts organizations and promote tourism. Learn more at rockwallarts.org.
