DAR hosts founder of Defenders of Freedom

(ROCKWALL – October 7, 2013) The “Rock Wall” Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution hosted Donna Cranston, founder of Defenders of Freedom (DOF), on October 7 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Heath.  The Dallas based non-profit organization Defenders of Freedom’s primary focus is to meet the needs of military members who served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

Cranston formed Defenders of Freedom in 2004 out of her passion to serve those selflessly serving our country in war zones. At the time, the primary goal of the organization was to support deployed service members through the distribution of personalized care packages. Since its inception, DOF has sent over 10 thousand care packages to our Troops overseas.

DOF has expanded the focus of service to include providing emergency financial assistance to wounded veterans and their families. DOF is additionally working alongside the Army’s Advocates for wounded Warriors through the Wounded Transition Units at various bases nationwide, as well as with the Dallas Veteran’s Hospital, to ensure that as many wounded Troops as possible receive the assistance the require.

Concurrent to her work with DOF, Cranston has also served as the Onsite Coordinator for the Welcome Home a Hero Program at Dallas Ft. Worth Airport until its discontinuation in 2012.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s volunteer service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. For more information, call Regent Peggy Atterberry, 972-771-5067.
