Groovy’s employee awarded Giving Trip by TOMS shoes

(ROCKWALL – October 26, 2013) Over the past two years, Amanda Holy has created dozens of eye-catching window displays, compiled hundreds of sales reports and managed a multitude of marketing responsibilities at Groovy’s, a fashion boutique with locations in Rockwall, Forney and Arlington.

But as the store’s “TOMS Advocate,” perhaps the one thing Amanda does best is connect with customers – touting the benefits of buying TOMS shoes.

“For every TOMS product purchased, TOMS helps one person in need. So when you buy a pair of TOMS from Groovy’s, someone across the globe receives a free pair of shoes. For many, it may be the first pair of shoes they’ve ever worn,” Amanda explains.

Groovy’s has become one of the top TOMS retailers in the area, selling 11,700 pairs since putting them on their shelves about three years ago. That means Groovy’s customers have helped provide shoes to nearly 12,000 children in need in more than 60 countries.

“Amanda is an awesome employee, with a true passion for her work,” said Christi Foster, Groovy’s owner. “That’s why we were so excited to receive a call from our TOMS sales rep, Brad Otts, who let us know that Amanda was selected as one of only four TOMS Advocates in America to receive a 2014 ‘Giving Trip’ – a chance to go to another country to distribute new shoes. There are hundreds of retailers across the U.S. that have Advocates, and our very own Amanda was chosen.”

Brad was among three TOMS representatives who showed up at Groovy’s September 24th to surprise Amanda with the announcement.

“Amanda has done an incredible job as a TOMS Advocate, sharing our story and speaking on behalf of our ‘One for One’ movement. Not only has she helped Groovy’s sell more shoes, but customers are impacted, and we’re able to transform everyday purchases into a force for good around the world,” said Brad.

TOMS recently gave away its 10 millionth pair – but the movement goes beyond putting shoes on someone’s feet. Shoes protect against cuts, infections and diseases. Many countries require shoes to attend school. And when combined with programs run by TOMS Giving Partners, shoes can become a powerful tool in creating opportunities for a better future.

Amanda does not know which country she will be going to on her Giving Trip, but says she looks forward to the opportunity no matter where she goes. “It’s so exciting. You see customers come into the store everyday and buy TOMS, and you tell them that their shoe purchase will help someone else in need…Now I get to be part of that giving experience. I’ll be able to share that experience first-hand.”
