ROCKWALL (November 13, 2013) Some City of Rockwall Parks and Recreation employees worked their way to 3rd Place for the North Texas Region in the Texas Recreation and Parks Society Park Maintenance Rodeo held in October.

Displaying their skills in the contest were: Jack McClain, Jeremy Moon, John Adair, Jorge Figueroa, Sergio Escobar, Russell Lawrence, Brian Sartain, Will Smith and Clay Doigg. They were cheered on by Parks and Recreation Manager Andy Hesser.

Jorge Figueroa won the Backhoe Obstacle Course Competition, and he and Sergio Escobar won the Truck and Trailer Backing Obstacle Course Competition. The department placed 3rd out of 23 North Texas Cities.

“The Park Maintenance Rodeo is a great way for park maintenance staff to get away from the daily routine and use their skills to have some fun and see how they stack up with other larger cities,” said Hesser. “Our guys do quite well. They have won several events over the past few years.”

Clay Doigg competes in the Mower Obstacle Course Race for the City of Rockwall at the TRAPS Maintenance Rodeo.

In 2011, the department hosted the event and, said  Hesser, “won 1stPlace in our region!”

The events included: a truck and trailer backing course, a backpack blower course, a backhoe operating contest, a nail driving contest, an irrigation contest, a zero turn mower timed course and an out-front mower timed course.
