ROCKWALL (December 4, 2013) Freshman lacrosse players from Rockwall County made history over Thanksgiving break by representing the smallest county in Texas at the IMG National Lacrosse Tournament in Bradenton, Florida. The metroplex is quickly establishing itself as a force in lacrosse, and these local young men made Texas proud!

Rockwall High School freshman Grant Miller and Heath High School freshmen Brody Lowry, JC Hohenshelt and Parker Phillips travelled with Team North Texas (TNT) Red Squad. The team finished 5th in the national tournament, winning five of their six games. They had decisive victories over teams from Georgia and Minnesota and lost a hard-fought battle against a team from Columbus, Ohio.

Lowry, playing at attack, was perhaps the most prolific scorer in the entire tournament. Lowry, always an offensive force, had 9 goals and 14 assists in the two-day tournament. Lowry also plays on other travel teams out of North Texas, as he is one of the premier high school players in the nation.

Phillips and Miller both play the middie position, providing depth, speed and cunning on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. Phillips, one of the fastest players in the tournament, had 10 assists and 1 goal in the tournament. Miller had one of the most exciting plays with a strategic interception in mid-field that served to change the momentum of the game and helped lead TNT to victory against the Minnesota team. Miller had 2 goals and 6 assists during the tournament.

Defensive leader Hohenshelt constantly dominated the opposing teams. Hohenshelt had at least 6-7 take-aways in every game at the tournament and also took a few turns in the penalty box – a sure sign that a defensive man is doing his job!

All four freshmen play on the Rockwall/Heath lacrosse club’s varsity high school team. They also each play sports at their respective high schools, with Lowry, Hohenshelt and Phillips playing on the Heath freshman football team and Miller playing on the Rockwall HS basketball team.
