ROCKWALL, TX (May 12, 2014)

Change in zoning notification

City officials have revised the notification process for property zoning change requests by extending the area of mail notifications and posting large, more visible signage on the subject property.

The changes include:

  • Property owner notification buffer area increased from 200 to 500 feet;
  • All public hearing notices will be sent via first class mail with envelope stamped in red: “Zoning Change Requested.”
  • City staff will mail notifications to all known homeowner association representatives within 1,500″ of subject property.
  • A four by four foot, doubled sided sign – with highly visible colors indicating the type of zoning change requested – will be posted on subject property.

Council members approved the change at their May 5th meeting.

Batting cage proposal OK’d by City Council

A franchise agreement with Leo Rodriguez was approved by council members at their May 5 meeting to allow the installation and operation of three 60′ by 14′ batting cages at Leon Tuttle Athletic Complex.

The city will receive 30% of the businesses’ revenue for ground lease of the property, which will be located at the south end of the complex between fields four and six. Costs for construction of the batting cages and for the equipment (which must stay in the city) will come from Rockwall Baseball Association funds.

Rockwall Baseball & Softball League members will be provided a discount when using the batting cages.

YAC students honored

Rockwall’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) delivered a year-end report to City Council May 5 that included a presentation highlighting the group’s success in hosting the 2014 statewide YAC Summit. Mayor David Sweet thanked YAC members for their service and recognized each graduating senior.  “You made Rockwall look good,” Mayor Sweet told YAC members.  He also thanked City Secretary Kristy Ashberry and Mayor Pro Tem David White for their work as YAC liaisons.

YAC is a city-sponsored program that teaches local youth about municipal government. Among their many activities, YAC students attend city council meetings to learn and observe elected officials in action. The program is also designed to develop students’ leadership skills and give back to the community through volunteering at city programs and events.  For more information about the Rockwall YAC, contact Ms. Ashberry at (972) 772-6406 or visit rockwall.com/youthcouncil.asp.
