ROCKWALL, TX (May 21, 2014) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers recently selected Alyssa Henry as the “Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month” and Chris Glover as the “Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month.”
Alyssa, a 10th grade member of the Varsity Softball Team was nominated by Coach Shadie Acosta and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
During the last month, Alyssa was 14 for 23 in her last six games. She has gotten on base 19 times of 26 plate appearances. She also batted 1.000 in the area championship game with 3-doubles and went 3 for 4 in the bi-district game.
“Alyssa Henry is incredibly talented. She is gifted with speed and power with a great ability to read the ball of the bat and get phenomenal jumps on the ball defensively. More importantly, Alyssa, has a great work ethic, a strong competitive attitude, a humble nature and a deep desire to work at getting better. She fought back through a season opening injury and came back even stronger than her freshman year. She has been an ideal teammate with a great sense of humor and an ability to zone in and get the job done when her team really needs her. “ said Coach Acosta.
Also nominated for Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month was Raena Eldridge (Water Polo).
Chris Glover, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Baseball Team, was nominated by Coach Jeff Payne and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
During April, Chris won three big district games for the Yellowjackets on the mound, allowing no earned runs, thus helping the Yellowjackets lock down the 2nd seed in District 12-5A.
“Chris has increased his velocity and improved his secondary pitches from last season. We have ridden him through district play and he has been clutch every time out,” said Coach Payne.
Also nominated for Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month were Bryce Singer (Gymnastics), Daniel Gibbs (Golf), and Evan Scown (Water Polo).
