ROCKWALL,TX. (August 28, 2014) Three local high school graduates have been named recipients of the 2014 Mary Elaine House Scholarship. The recipients are Whitnee Ann Bomkamp and Sydney de la Garza, graduates o fRockwal lHigh School, and Jade Keath, a graduate of Rockwall-Heath High School. They are all majoring in music as they begin their studies this Fall.
The scholarship’s namesake, Mary Elaine House, was a founding member of Lakeside Civic Chorus and a lifetime supporter of music and the arts. The Chorus awards scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors majoring in music at an accredited college or university. Each student will receive $1,500.
Whitnee, the daughter of Tonya Bomkamp and Tommy Bomkamp, is attending Oklahoma City University and will study Music and Music Theatre. At Rockwall High School, Whitnee participated in the Elite Theatre Class, Spotlight Productions, and was a vocalist for the Rockwall High School Jazz Band. She also participated in the JV and Varsity Drill team, and was a member of Pure Joy! FUMC Garland Youth Choir.
Sydney, the daughter of Dolly De La Garza, is attending UT Arlington and will study Music Education and Choral Direction. At Rockwall High School, Sydney participated in the Rockwall High School Choir and served as their President, All Region Choir, Mixed Choir, All Region Treble Choir, and was a vocalist for the Rockwall High School Jazz Band. Sydney was named Outstanding Soloist – District and Duke Scholar – Academic Talent.Sydneyis also a Teacher’s Aid at Dobbs Elementary. Sydney sang with the Lakeside Civic Chorus for one season during her junior year.
Jade, the daughter of Jim Keath and Joy Gannaway, is attending the University of North
Texas, where she was awarded the UNT Excellence Scholarship. Jade will study Music Education. At Rockwall Heath High School, Jade participated in the Hawk Choir, and served as their President, SW Academic Honor Choir, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and received the AP Scholar Award. Jade also participated in the Beta Club and the International Thespian Association.
The Lakeside Civic Chorus is pleased to continue its longstanding tradition of supporting young musical talent in Rockwall and the surrounding area as they pursue their musical education.
