ROCKWALL,TX. (September 17, 2014) The Wind Ensemble from Rockwall High School was selected as a National Winner for the Mark Of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors project. The Wind Ensemble is the top performing concert band from Rockwall High School’s Orange Wave Band and is made up of sixty-one members.
The Mark of Excellence recorded music contest offers bands, choirs, and orchestras the unprecedented opportunity to earn national recognition for their musical achievement. The Foundation for Music Education who sponsors the contest received recordings from concert bands all across theUnited States. Nationally recognized judges who adjudicated the recordings were Richard Floyd from the University Interscholastic League, Steven Davis from University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, and Anthony Maiello from the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, four members of the group were chosen as Outstanding Soloists. They are Jonathan Molinar on alto saxophone, Jon Phelps on soprano saxophone, Joseph Hackenbracht on Eb clarinet, and Enrico Trevisani on alto saxophone.
Chris Kosterman, RISD’s Fine Arts Director and the Director of Bands atRockwallHigh Schoolfor the past three years said, “Being chosen as a National Winner is simply an amazing accomplishment for the Orange Wave Band. This is what can happen when you have a great school and community, tremendous support from our school district, and most importantly, great kids.”
