Home School Athletic Association adds Water Polo to its sports lineup
ROCKWALL, TX (Jan. 24, 2015) A year ago, homeschool parent Linda Fletcher worked hard in this community to see if Rockwall could find the numbers it would take to field the nations first “all homeschool high school water polo team.”
Having accomplished this, her sights were set on the sport being added to an organization that would bring stability and credibility. With the success the parent-led program had in 2014, the Home School Athletic Association (HSAA) has added water polo for 2015. Now, homeschool athletes have an official program that allows them to letter in the sport.
Some changes have been made since the inaugural season last year, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is probably the most important: Angela Uno will remain the coach for the HSAA team. The team will be administered by HSAA and led by Water Polo Commissioner Linda Fletcher.
While other locations throughout the DFW metroplex are being explored, the first team will be based in Rockwall and is open to any homeschooled high school athlete meeting all HSAA requirements and who is willing to make the practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rockwall Aquatic Center.
Practices begin February 17th and the season runs until mid-April. The season consists of three Saturday tournaments where the team will play two games each versus public and private school teams and ends with the North Texas Consolidated High School Championships in mid-April.
HSAA is looking for athletes who know how to swim to form both boys and girls teams for this spring season. If there is enough interest, middle school teams can be formed as well. No water polo experience is necessary.
