Springer students Skype with Iditarod runner

ROCKWALL,TX. (March 10, 2015) April Perkins’ 6th graders Skyped with Ms. Karen Land, an author of many journals/ magazine articles regarding her experiences running the Iditarod race in Alaska.

Karen Land had one of her dogs with her during the Skype session and discussed with the students her experiences with the Iditarod.

Librarian, Mrs. Rachael Taylor, connected the class with Ms. Land and set up the Skype session to assist in developing connections for the students. They have been making text to self, text to text, and text to world connections with the unit they are currently working on.

The students have been reading “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen and have been connecting other texts by Paulsen about the Canadian/ Alaskan Wilderness and his experiences running the Iditarod.
