Rockwall pet advocate garners more national recognition

(ROCKWALL, TX – April 28, 2015) Rockwall County has received more national recognition for its leadership in animal welfare. Michael Kitkoski, co-founder of No Kill Solutions, was selected as the focus of the “Inspiring People” section of Best Friends Magazine in its latest edition.

The article in the May/June issue highlights the accomplishments of Michael and his wife Pam in saving the lives of shelter pets.

Due to the leadership of Michael and Pam, the Rockwall and Royse City shelters have saved over 90% of the animals in their care for the last three years. Michael and Pam founded No Kill Solutions in May 2014 to assist shelters nationwide in replicating the Rockwall County model.

Michael and Pam have been active during the current session of the Texas Legislature in lobbying for animal-friendly legislation.

Nearly 30 years ago, Best Friends Animal Society helped pioneer the No Kill movement. The nonprofit organization features a national leader in the No Kill movement in each edition of its magazine.

After they co-founded the No Kill advocacy group Rockwall Pets in June 2010, Michael and Pam set up a series of programs, from off-site adoptions to enhanced marketing, to help the Rockwall animal shelter reach No Kill status in August 2011.

They quickly refashioned Rockwall Pets into a rescue organization in order to help the homeless pets at the Royse City shelter. That facility also became No Kill in August 2012.

Michael and Pam are long-time community volunteers, working first for the City of Dallas, then later for the City of Rockwall. They were founding board members of Rockwall PAWS in 2008. Together with Dr. Ellen Jefferson of Austin Pets Alive! and Ryan Clinton of FixAustin, they founded Dallas Pets Alive! in 2012.

Michael has made presentations at conferences nationwide, including the No Kill National Conference in Washington, DC, the Best Friends National Conference in Las Vegas, NV, the American Pets Alive! No Kill Conference in Austin, TX and at local workshops sponsored by Pawsitively Texas. Michael was honored to received the Henry Bergh Leadership Award from the No Kill Advocacy Center in 2011.
