(ROCKWALL, TX – April 30, 2015) Former U.S. Navy fighter pilot J. Waymon Rose, a resident of Rock Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Rockwall, is one of six senior veterans selected to soar the skies over Dallas-Fort Worth in a World War II era bi-plane.

The “Day of Recognition” is made possible by the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to U.S. military veterans living in long-term care communities. The event will honor senior veterans from Signature Senior Living’s Communities located in Rockwall, Denton, Flower Mound, Coppell, and Grapevine. Rose’s flight will take off from Alliance Airport in Fort Worth at 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 15. He will ride in the cockpit of a Boeing Stearman, the airplane used to train many military aviators in the late 1930’s and 40’s.

“Here we go again!” said Rose, after learning of this opportunity. “This will be fun; it will be interesting to be back in that airplane. The Stearman was the first airplane that I flew.”

Rose also has the distinction of serving as the Mayor of Lucas, TX from the mid to late 80’s. Much has also been written about how Rose had a front-row seat at one of Dallas’ most famous criminal trials. He served as Juror No. 10 in the Jack Ruby murder trial, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.
