(ROCKWALL, TX – May 8, 2015) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Trey Ochoa as the Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month and Bailey Wallace and Raena Eldridge as the Meador Auto Lady Jacket Athletes of the Month.
Trey Ochoa, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Baseball Team, was nominated by Coach Jeff Payne and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
During the month of April, Ochoa has a batting average of .400 this month, 8 runs scored, 3 RBI’s, 5 stolen bases, 1 save as a pitcher, and only 2 errors on defense.
“I want every ball hit to Trey when we are on defense. Our pitchers know a ground ball on the left side is going to result in good things for us. Our leadoff hitter who gets us going, our best defensive player playing the most important defensive position at shortstop, our team leader,” said Coach Payne.
Bailey Wallace, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Softball Team, was nominated by Coach Shadie Acosta and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
“Through April we played seven games. In those seven games Bailey went 15 for 20 with a .750 batting average with 14 RBI’s. Her season batting average is .656 and she’s batting .683 with runners in scoring position. She had only 1 error in 20 games as our starting first baseman and does a beautiful job picking up off-throws from teammates to secure the outs. She’s quick and has range in her position and can dig-up even the toughest of throws,” said Coach Acosta. “Bailey Wallace is a fantastic all-around player and person who is passionate about the game, a super competitor but also keeps success and failure in perspective. She works through adversity well, keeps her priorities at the forefront of her decisions, and also knows how to have fun! I am proud of the young woman that she is and the way she represents herself, her family and this softball program.”
Raena Eldridge, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Water Polo Team, was nominated by Coach Paul Wallace and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
“During April in our four games at the Regional Championships Raena was the team leader on both offense (17 goals) and defense (11 steals) in spite of being double-teamed and triple-teamed the entire tournament. In response to her performance she was named 1st team All-Region and finished 3rd in the MVP voting at Regionals. She also helped our team secure a birth at the State Championships,” said Coach Wallace. “Raena has been the heart and soul of this team for four years. She has led the team with integrity. I know coaches who have coached for 30 years and never had an athlete of Raena’s caliber. She will be greatly missed next year.”
