San Jacinto Plaza Music Series

The popular San Jacinto Plaza outdoor venue in downtown Rockwall will continue to host live music Friday and Saturday evenings through Oct 30. Located in the 100 block of South San Jacinto between Rusk and Washington Streets. Limited seating is available; feel free to bring your own chair. Food and beverages also welcome. Fine Art Show

Rockwall Art League presents its 15th Annual Fine Art Show, Friday through Sunday at the Rockwall Rotary Building, 408 S. Goliad. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday with an Artist Meet & Greet from 5 to 7 p.m.; & noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Free & open to the public. Bluebonnet Planting

Friends of RaymondCameronLakeParkwill host their 2nd annual Texas Bluebonnet planting. They will meet at 10 a.m. at the fishing pier at PhelpsLake. Hear the story of the Legend of the Bluebonnets as performed by members of the Rockwall Community Playhouse. Hannah Moore, Nebbie Williams 6th grader, will perform the reading, accompanied by flute player, Landon Wynne, Utley 7th grader. Children will be given muslin bags of seeds to scatter on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rib Rub Run & Roll

Teams will fire up their grills for a smokin’ hot barbecue competition as folks flock to Rockwall’s historic town square for a day-long celebration that includes a 5k/10k run, live music, Kids Zone, car & motorcycle show; wine tasting competition & IBCA sanctioned BBQ contest. Rock Wall Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, celebrating 125 years since the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on Oct. 11, will display DAR memorabilia, fun facts & photos throughout October at the Rockwall County Library. FIRE TRUCKS & FREE PIZZA

Rockwall Domino’s, 2330 Greencrest, and the National Fire Protection Association are teaming up with the Rockwall Fire Department to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4 – 10). On Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 6 – 8 p.m., anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza may be randomly selected and surprised at the door when their pizza arrives aboard a fire engine. If the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If the smoke alarms are not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries.

Join the Miracle Mix Chili Cook Off from noon to 2:30 p.m. at 505 E. Boydstun in Rockwall. This community event raises funds for Children’s Relief International’s Tessa Grace Miracle Milk program. Your participation means that hungry & malnourished children will be helped; all donations go to providing Miracle Mix/Milk for HIV orphans in South Asia & malnourished babies in Mozambique; and there are great cook off prizes.  There will be a face painting, bounce houses, games & great food. There will even be a Pumpkin Patch and pumpkin painting. Come hungry, because we’ll of course be serving chili, chili dogs, veggies, chips and other goodies. The City of Rockwall’s Geographic Information Systems Department will be host to its 2nd Annual GIS Day event. GIS Day is an international event that showcases how GIS is used and what the technology offers. It also coincides with National Geography Awareness Week, a geographic literacy initiative sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The Rockwall GIS Department will display a map gallery, educational videos, GIS technology & GPS equipment. This event is open to the public and will be hosted at Rockwall City Hall, 385 S.
