(ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 16, 2015) Congratulations to Springer Elementary School’s 3rd grade team, Librarian Rachael Taylor, Technology Specialist Kay Orr and SAGE Teacher Jenny Kaup for receiving a grant for 3rd grade students to participate in after the holidays.
Students at Springer Elementary will have the opportunity to be a part of a “Makerspace” environment, where they will be provided with tools and technology that will enable them to become producers rather than simply consumers. They will emerge as “inventors” by looking at the past to research about an inventor, comparing that information to understand how that invention looks in the present, and finally, interact with a “real world expert” related to their invention by creating an authentic design that will impact the future.
Christina Lee also received a grant about “Business in the Classroom,” where students will have the opportunity to run a business by understanding how to create a product, sell, and generate revenue to understand the process of products becoming available for consumers while creating supply and demand.
Information provided by Jenny Kaup, M.Ed., SAGE Teacher, Springer Elementary.
