Rockwall County honors CERT volunteers for relief efforts

(ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX – Jan. 26, 2016) Members of the EastTex Regional Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were recognized during the Rockwall County Commissioners Court meeting this morning, Jan. 26, for their efforts in assisting the City of Rowlett and those communities which were affected by the devastating Dec. 26 tornado.

Rockwall County Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Delane and Emergency Management Specialist Melanie Jensen also received Certificate of Achievement awards for their incredible work in helping to manage emergency response teams and coordinate with other tornado relief groups throughout the community.

EastTex CERT were involved in 36 total events in 2015, including five emergency deployments in which its members assisted in search and rescue operations. The team amassed 4,195 total volunteer hours for the year, and have spent 603 hours alone in aiding the City of Rowlett during the recovery process.
