Clear your calendars for Founders Day this weekend

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 18, 2016) Rockwall turns 162 years old in 2016, and the City is putting on a huge party to mark the occasion. The event, only days away, happens at Harry Myers Park on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Festivities include a kids’ zone, unique vendors, famous food trucks, and live music all day—culminating with headliner performances by Stoney LaRue and Diamond Rio in the evening.

Rockwall’s Founders Day Festival is a premiere event hosted annually by the City, and always draws a record crowd. This year, event planners expect to top last year’s nearly 10,000 attendees by focusing their strategy. “We decided to include an additional headliner,” said Andy Hesser, Rockwall Parks and Recreation Manager. “Founders Day Festival 2016 will feature two nationally renowned bands—Stoney LaRue and Diamond Rio.”

As the Live Music Capital of North Texas, Rockwall is known throughout the region for the ability to draw fans to this marquee event. Rockwall’s Founders Day Festival promises to be huge, with live music all day from top-notch bands: Cole Risner, Bad Moon Rising, Run 4 Cover, Schroomville, Stoney LaRue, and Diamond Rio.

Schroomville: 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Stoney LaRue 6:00 – 7:15 pm
Diamond Rio 8:00 – 9:15 pm

Non-stop family fun activities include a climbing wall, bounce house maze, remote controlled race car track and life-size yard games. Be sure to come hungry, because there will be a whole host of food vendors on site, including returning favorite food trucks: Rockin’ Ricks, The Butcher’s Son, and What’s Da Scoop.

All the day’s entertainment is free, brought to you by the City of Rockwall Parks and Recreation Department. Seating fills up fast, so event-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and sunscreen. Harry Myers Park is located at 945 East Washington Street. Handicap parking will be available in the front lot of the park, and parking across from the park in the grass lot will be $5 cash per car, which goes to the Rockwall Breakfast Rotary Club charity. Free parking is available in the other Harry Myers Park parking lots. For maps and more details, please visit the Founders Day Festival page at playrockwall.com.
