(ROCKWALL, TX – June 1, 2016) Fifth grade students at Doris Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary School recently simulated immigration to America through Ellis Island as a part of a showcase night for their parents.

David Coleman portrays an immigrant who was hurt on his journey to America.

The students took on identities of people of the past and dressed their part as they went through clearance stations to gain entry into America.

They had to have all of their documents in order and then went through check points including:  vocation, character, and  health.  If they gained entry to America they took the Loyalty Oath.

They were also able to go to appeals stations to plead their case and provide references for their entry.

The students also created a wall graph showing some of the events taking place in other countries that would cause people to want to immigrate to America and created a mural of Ellis Island on one of the walls.
