Much anticipated I-30 Ramp Reversal Project begins in Rockwall

Plan will facilitate easier access and usability of John King Boulevard

(ROCKWALL, TX – July 7, 2016) Construction is underway on a ramp reversal project that will make it easier to enter and exit Interstate 30 between John King Boulevard and State Highway 205 in Rockwall. Specifically, an entrance ramp will switch to an exit ramp on one side of I-30 near Shenaniganz, and an exit ramp will change to an entrance ramp on the other side of the highway. The reversal construction, which starts on Tuesday, July 5, will allow for a smoother flow of traffic, and better functionality of all three roadways.

When John King Blvd. was initially designed, the plan was for it to become the bypass route for SH 205 through Rockwall. Now the new construction project will make that transition easier. In this reversal, the eastbound entrance ramp on I-30, just east of SH 205 becomes an exit ramp, and the westbound exit ramp east of SH 205 becomes an entrance ramp to I-30. These changes will improve the flow of traffic, especially at the intersection of I-30 and SH 205.

Rockwall voters approved funding in the 2012 bond election for this project, which is financed locally through the City of Rockwall and Rockwall County. The Texas Department of Transportation will oversee the $3.5 million reversal construction performed by Ed Bell Construction. As there will be temporary lane closures during the estimated seven month construction, the City of Rockwall appreciates your patience during the process, and will provide future updates as the project progresses.
