Texas investor group proposes ‘Bullet Train’ from Dallas to Houston

Proposed Bullet train is the international version of the Tokaido Shinkansen system currently in operation between Tokyo and Osaka, Japan.

(ROCKWALL, TX – July 18, 2016) Planning a trip to Houston?  How would you like to catch a high-speed train at 3 p.m. in Dallas and step off at 4:30 p.m. in Houston?  Although that is not possible at present, a group of Texas investors is working to make it a reality, said Rebecca Cowle, Outreach Manager for Texas Central Partners, as she addressed members of the Rockwall Democratic Party, July 16, 2016 in Rockwall, Texas.

Rebecca Cowle presents information on high speed rail.

The so-called “bullet train,” the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere – a train that travels at 205 mph, leaves Dallas and arrives in Houston in less than 90 minutes, and departs every hour or so carrying about 400 passengers – could become a reality by late 2021/early 2022, according to Ms. Cowle.

“The project could employ 40,000 during construction and 1,000 once operational, and add billions to the Texas economy” said Ms. Cowle, and “would not require government grants or subsidy, since it is being privately financed.”  In fact, it is a business that will pay taxes, she said.

But the project has its detractors.  Special interests are gearing up to oppose it and may propose legislation to kill it.
