(ROCKWALL, TX – Aug. 25, 2016) Rockwall will soon have a new fitness trail – centrally located in a well-trafficked area and operated by the county.
Proposed by Commissioner Lee Gilbert, plans show the 400-meter tract located on eight acres between the new county courthouse and Interstate 30 on county-owned property.
Calling it “a valuable community asset,” and a “convenient and safe place to connect with the outdoors,” Gilbert explained that the fitness trail would be open to the public while also serving as a way to promote health and wellness opportunities for county employees. The low maintenance trail includes fitness stations for activities such as: calf stretch, hamstring and quad stretch, balance walk and heartrate and tension release. Also included in the plan is a water fountain and a pavilion with benches.
The gravel trail is shown as two-thirds of a mile with a measured loop of one-quarter mile and an existing sidewalk of one-half mile – for a total distance of 1.2 miles.
Cost of the project is $59,987. Commissioners approved funding up to $60,000.
“I think it’s something that’s going to be well used by the community and employees,” said Commissioner David Magness.
