Rockwall Economic Development Insights: The Art of Local Growth

(ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 7, 2016) In recent years, many people throughout the country have taken great pride in shopping local. Doing so has become a phenomenal way to support neighborhood businesses and show respect for an area’s unique character. Yet, in Rockwall, this way of life is only the beginning of how we’ve mastered the craft of creating the thriving place we call “home.”

As Rockwall residents and visitors alike have seen, there’s a wealth of benefits to the surrounding community when shopping local. In a sense, it goes beyond merely buying something at another store, and becomes supporting businesses owned by people who live and work in our community. These businesses represent local prosperity as they keep jobs in the community, and those employees in turn, spend their hard-earned dollars back here in Rockwall, creating a powerful generator of growth.

In fact, for every dollar spent at a business in Rockwall, an investment is being made in our community that binds our residents together. Most importantly, a portion of every sales tax dollar contributes to the city’s ability to hire police and firefighters, as well as fulfill street repairs and recycling initiatives. In reality, those dollars are going to the neighbors and friends that make every day in Rockwall possible. They’re also, quite literally, building our community, brick-by-brick.

Success breeds success. Buying local supports and strengthens our retail and in turn attracts other retail and investment for the city.  As local businesses succeed, residents have more options for goods and services. More people develop an interest in Rockwall, and with each shopping experience, the city truly becomes an even more attractive community to live, work, shop and play. This is evidenced by our city’s continued double digit population growth, going back decades.

Through that expanded interest, there’s even more benefit. New and established businesses keep choosing to relocate or expand in Rockwall, resulting in additional employment, economic activity, and city support. These businesses help bolster and diversify the city’s revenue, providing further economic impact to the community. In that sense, Rockwall isn’t merely another city among many; it’s a vibrant, interesting place to spend time and an absolutely wonderful place to live and have a business.

As our community continues to flourish, residents will undoubtedly enjoy the sense of fellowship and camaraderie that has made our city a wonderful place. Each and every new business grows and strengthens our economy and adds to the remarkable character and charm that sets Rockwall apart and makes us unique. The future of Rockwall belongs to each of us. From our fabulous downtown to our beautiful parks and trails; the city services and infrastructure improvements; restaurants, retail and entertainment options; and our exceptional industry – Rockwall continues to thrive.  This year, as the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation celebrates 20 years of building Rockwall, I want to thank you.  Together, we’ve made this an amazing place to live, work, shop and play.
