(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 10, 2017) The Rockwall High School wrestlers traveled to the 15th Annual Cypress-Fairbanks Wrestling Invitational over the weekend. Eighty-three boys varsity teams from the state of Texas and Louisiana were entered and the Yellowjacket wrestlers claimed the championship trophy for the second time in three years!
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was senior captain Michael Duvall. Duvall claimed the 145 pound championship, running his season record to 29-1. Junior 106 pounder Steve Flowers, 27-3, lost his championship match, earning second place. Freshman Hunter Males, 20-8, placed 7th in the 113 pound weight class. Chase Howerton, a junior 120 pound wrestler, placed 4th, moving his season record to 21-5. Sophomore Carson Lipsey, 18-4, earned the fifth place medal. Junior 152 pounder Kade McMahon moved his season record to 28-3 while claiming 4th place honors. Sean DelMonte, a sophomore 182 pounder, placed 6th, moving his season record to 19-5. Senior captain David Roland, 22-3, claimed 7th place in the 220 pound weight class. Also competing and scoring valuable team points for the Jackets was 138 Tyler Tirevold, 160 Abednigo Sagomba, 170 Riley Pevler, 195 Anfernee Orji, and 285 Kevin Smith.
The Girls tournament had 70 teams entered. Leading the way for the Lady Jacket Wrestlers was junior Jackie Mote, who claimed 3rd place in the 215 pound bracket. Mote’s season record is now 17-4. Also competing for the Lady Jacket Wrestlers was 110 Mia Arceneax, 119 Carrie Lyza, 138 Carrie Schaffhauser, and 148 Emma Greshem. Arceneax was eliminated one round from placing in the top eight.
