(ROCKWALL, TX – April 23, 2018) The City of Rockwall will host the Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 3 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at The Center in Downtown Rockwall, located at 108 East Washington Street, in conjunction with the annual National Day of Prayer. Mayors from cities throughout Rockwall County will be in attendance. The Reverend Jason Holland will be speaking and Kristy Cole will lead the worship. The theme this year is Unity.
There will be a second opportunity for the community to come together in prayer on the same day. A midday prayer event will also be held on May 3 at The Center from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Prayers will be offered by pastors and community leaders.
The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer in 1775, as did Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Then, Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual event by joint resolution signed by President Truman in 1952. The law was amended and signed by President Reagan to officially designate the first Thursday in May as the annual date. The events are not political, but rather meant to encourage people county-wide to join their neighbors in a call to pray for our nation just as our national leaders will do in Washington D.C.
