The Dallas Builders Association coordinated the project and participating DBA members donated the materials needed to construct the two bedroom, two bathroom, handicap accessible home. Builder Captains for the project are Altura Homes and Rockwall-based Mishler Builders, Inc. “We are so grateful for this wonderful gift from our friends at the Dallas Builders Association,” said Lori Stevens, Founder and Executive Director of Patriot PAWS Service Dogs. “The house will be a comfortable and convenient place to stay for veterans who visit our campus to train with their service dogs.” Having a place to stay on site will also help the veterans save in hotel costs.
Patriot PAWS Service Dogs is a national non-profit whose mission is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled veterans in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence. The organization was officially designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in February 2006. Patriot PAWS holds an active membership and is accredited by Assistance Dogs International (ADI)—the only certifying service dog organization in the United States. Patriot PAWS trains their dogs at the Rockwall facility; at their Patriot PAWS Aggieland program in College Station; with area volunteer Puppy Raisers; and through their partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where inmate trainers work with the dogs in prison.
The DBA enthusiastically embraces a leading role in building and sustaining surrounding communities through the diverse and significant contributions of its members. In the past decade, the DBA has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars, and thousands of volunteer hours to programs that benefit veterans, advocate for children in foster care, and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need.
